There’s this thing that I really love about life in London. I have been to a few culturally rich places in the world before – not as many as I wished, though. But I haven’t felt the same way in all of these cities, as I have felt in London.
Life in London has this strange vibe that makes you feel comfortable as if you were in your own home. Everywhere else, I’ve always felt like a guest and of course, I act like a guest when I come to a different country.
It’s like when you have a sleepover at your friend’s house while his parents are home, right? Inside the room, you do pretty much what you want, but as soon as your friend’s mum gets in the room to bring you cookies, you start acting shy and polite, putting on fake smiles and stop being yourself. You start thinking “am I sitting too comfortably?”,”O shit, I forgot to hang my jacket”, “Where do I put my cup of milk, so she doesn’t kick me out of the house,”… familiar? We’ve all been there before.
But life in London is different!
If I forget all about the media and purely share my experience, It’s just like that best friend’s house who doesn’t live with his parents anymore. You can go there and stay relaaaaxed maan! You lie down on the bed, switch on the TV, go to the fridge if you get really hungry and maybe even shoot hoops in the bin. And as long as you don’t miss… or as long as you act respectfully and repay them for their hospitality, you’re gonna do OK. You’re gonna act like you would want them to act in your house, right? You would want them to relax in your home and at the same time, you don’t want them to relax too much so that they start throwing trash around, so you’d have to do all the work.
As long as you’re both having fun right?
Soo yeah, very welcoming here! Londoners be like, “yeah man, welcome to our country! Just don’t forget to drive on the left side, we use miles instead of kilometres. And oh yeah, almost forgot, we all contribute to keeping our common fund filled to keep the country going, so feel free to join us on that. So act like you’re home, would you like a cup of tea?”
I don’t know if it’s just me, or do you also feel the same way about the life in London. Let me know in the comments, your experience. I’d appreciate that. CHEERS!
